Snow + flow

Flow Research Collective is one of my primary resources for reaching my potential. The other day, they asked “What’s your favorite activity that gets you into flow?” My response “snowboarding” led to a conversation about how the sport has been mission-critical to my mental health and well-being. Exploring the mountain, especially in the stillness of the trees, has been the thing that boosted me back to my usual Tigger-ish enthusiasm. Until it didn’t.

After my dad died, I headed to the hills to help heal my heart. Even whooshing through the trees didn’t help revive my mood.

Sometimes, even flow isn’t enough to boost your mood out of grief or depression. When that’s the case, my suggestion is to start with non-pharma options like nutrition and mindful breathing.

Keep flowing. But don’t forget the importance of other types of self-care.
